![]() Personally if I was making an x86 build (and I plan to eventually) I would not use retropie (though if you do, use Attract Mode like Cupcake said its wonderful I'd probably use it for x86 too).įirst, I'd go windows 10. Some titles are just too much for the pi to handle, but mostly all the ones I really need to run, run well. ![]() You can install it over an existing image or download a premade image that Floob has put together which features some cool tweaks and saves you having to compile and install from the command line, which really isn't hard, that's what I've done on a few boxes, but Floobs image has some stuff already configured in attract mode which saves time as well.Īs far as emulation, I haven't hit any real snags with getting everything up to the n64 running ok on pi. In fact, hyperspin layouts have been made for it. If you haven't heard of it, you might want to look into it. However I do plan on building one with a pc and hyperspin in the near future.Īs for the pi builds, I installed Attract Mode on 3 of the recent ones. I've built quite a few bartop arcades for myself and others, with arcade controls, and they all have had pi's in them so I cannot speak about Hyperspin on a pc for the guts of a cab. Please share your thoughts, eventually want this cabinet to be the centerpiece of my finished basement where I will also display my gaming collection! Not much interest in emulating GameCube, Wii, PS2 and beyond. I want to run the top 25-50 games for each 8 to 64 bit console, portables, as well as MAME/Arcade. What are my best resources, and what else should I expect to invest into this desktop from a time and $$$ standpoint? I don't have unlimited funds or time. HyperSpin? I'm running 2600 through N64/PSX, and have whittled down to just the top games for each systemĮither way, I think I'd like to challenge myself and dive a little deeper into HyperSpin. What else should I do / add to the RetroPie setup to make it perfect for an arcade cab? Are there downsides to running a cab on RetroPie vs. If you were me would you just proceed with RetroPie on a Pi3 for the cabinet?
