If you are confused by any of these, take the time to learn about them now. I had to keep this in mind when handling application state and user interactions. I had to learn common smart contract vulnerabilities and adopt more rigorous security practices.Īsynchronous Interactions: In the web3 ecosystem, interactions with the blockchain are inherently asynchronous, as they depend on network confirmations and block mining times. While security is always essential, the stakes are elevated in web3. Security: Writing secure smart contracts is critical in web3, as vulnerabilities can have severe consequences, such as loss of funds or compromised functionality. I had to learn how to optimize my smart contracts for gas efficiency, which involved understanding the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and learning best practices for reducing gas consumption. Gas Costs: In Ethereum, transactions and smart contract executions consume "gas," a measure of computational resources. Understanding these concepts was challenging but crucial. I had to learn how decentralized systems function, including concepts like consensus algorithms, cryptographic hashing, and distributed storage. Language Differences: Solidity, the main language for creating smart contracts on the Ethereum blockchain, has its own unique syntax and conventions that differ significantly from Java, such as the way Solidity handles data types, function visibility, and storage.ĭecentralization: Moving from a centralized, server-based mindset to a decentralized, peer-to-peer approach required a substantial mental shift. Some of the mental shifts for blockchain technology included: For me, as a long-time Java dev, there were a few key differences between web2 and web3 that took a little time to sink in. And you need to understand those new concepts pretty well to get started. Some of that probably looks familiar, while some of it is new. Understanding and using layer one blockchains. Here, we’ll cover the ones you need to get started: Well, to start, the good news is you need all those usual skills you’ve already learned as a full-stack dev (testing, devops, code reviews, etc) … plus a few new ones. What Skills Are Needed To Be a Web3 Developer?įirst, what skills exactly do you need to be a web3 developer, and how are they different from what you already know? I’ll use this layout to divide the stack into its main components: layer one blockchains, smart contracts, languages, front-end libraries, node providers, APIs, dev environments, testing, oracle, identity, and more. It’s new (meaning it’s up to date, which is always important web3 moves fast), well organized, and will help us get started a lot faster than trying to define the layout of the stack ourselves! In this article, I want to explore the web3 developer stack, the pieces of that stack I like the best, and most importantly how you can use the web3 stack as a starting point to become a web3/blockchain developer.įirst, let’s look at the layout of the stack and the general categories.ĭisclaimer: I’m cheating a little and using the logical breakdown used in the Infura Guide to the Web3 Stack to help organize my thoughts. And as the markets swing wildly on their views of the web3 ecosystem, there are a surprising number of projects and companies that just keep on building serious, and groundbreaking, components of the web3 stack. I was initially skeptical about web3/blockchain, but as I've delved deeper past the FUD and into the current state of Web3, I've come to appreciate its potential. Recently, I decided to embark on a new adventure: diving into Ethereum and web3. ![]() As an experienced full-stack developer with 30 years of experience, I’ve witnessed a lot of changes in tech, from the advent of the internet to the excitement of Java to the rise of cloud computing.

Still, the biggest reason for the decline in the production of Rodgers and the offense as a whole, is the sub-par play of the offensive line. Yes, part of the reason is that the line has been banged up with injuries. The receivers have struggled getting open off that type of coverage and that forces Rodgers to hold on to the ball longer, which in turn causes sacks.Īnd that is not a good thing to do when the offensive line has struggled so much this season. Part of the reason is that opposing defenses don’t see anyone on the Packers who can beat them deep, so they play press coverage. Plus, the offense has obviously taken a step back as well. The Packers went 4-6 after that injury to Montgomery. That is also why he was such a good return man as well. He was a useful weapon for Rodgers to have, as he created a lot of his yardage after the catch because of his running back size dimensions. The Packers used the 6’0″, 216-pound Montgomery out wide, in the slot and in the backfield. 88 was just starting to find his niche in the offense of the Packers too. That injury turned out to be a turning point, as the Packers were 6-0 at that juncture of the season. Montgomery was never able to return from that injury and was placed on injured reserve late in the season. Jones has had some hamstring issues.Īnother key injury occurred when rookie wide receiver Ty Montgomery sprained his ankle versus the San Diego Chargers in Week 6. To be fair, the receiving corp as a whole have had injury issues. But that doesn’t excuse all the dropped passes and the lack of production.Īdams ended up with just 50 catches for 483 and one touchdown. 17 struggled with ankle problems for a number of games. 18 had 79 catches for just 829 yards and six touchdowns.īut as disappointing as those numbers are, no one has been more disappointing than second-year receiver Davante Adams. Randall Cobb has struggled to make an impact as the lead receiver of the Packers most of the season, and especially at crunch time. Although Jones had a decent season for the Packers in 2015 (50-890-8), the receiving corp as a whole had a very disappointing season. 87 was the deep threat for Rodgers in the offense of the Packers and also his most trusted receiver.īecause of the injury to Nelson, the Packers re-signed James Jones to help bolster the loss of Nelson. It all started when Jordy Nelson went down with a torn ACL in the preseason. Now, there are a number of reasons why the stats have declined for Rodgers in 2015. 12 was tied for 25th in the NFL with just six completions of 40-plus yards. ![]() The big plays were missing for Rodgers and the Packers on offense in 2015. Rodgers also averaged just 11 yards per pass completion this season, which is also a career low. Rodgers had never been below the 7.5 mark before this season. Once again, that was the lowest mark of his starting career by a wide margin. 12 also averaged just 6.7 yards gained per pass attempt in 2015. Just to compare, the career passer rating for Rodgers is 104.1.Īdding to that, Rodgers has now gone 10 consecutive games without posting a passer rating of over 100. In 2015, Rodgers passer rating was just 92.8, which is the lowest of his career since he became a starter in 2008. That is a steep decline based on the previous six seasons which averaged 279 yards per game. In addition to that, Rodgers also only threw for an average of 239 yards per game in 2015. Rodgers threw for just 3,821 yards this season, which is the lowest of his career, based on a full season. The yards passing for the season is one red flag. 12 did over the previous six seasons.īut when you peel back the onion, one can see a number of declining stats. Why? Because Rodgers threw 31 touchdown passes compared to just eight picks this year. Rodgers averaged a 108.6 passer rating over that time as well.Īt first glance, looking at the season Rodgers has put together for the Packers in 2015, it looks somewhat normal. 12 has averaged 35 touchdown passes versus eight picks for 4,364 over the past six seasons going into this year. Even in the 2013 season, when Rodgers missed seven games due to a fractured clavicle, he was on his way to another fabulous season, which would have averaged out to 30 touchdown passes versus 11 interceptions for 4,508 yards over 16 games.īased on that number and adding it together with the other years from 2009 through last season, No. In fact, if one looks at the production of Rodgers from 2009-2014, it was truly remarkable.
